Zhaohui Li, Ph.D. (Postdoc)
Dr. Li received his Ph.D. in Applied Computer Science from Nankai University. Dr. Li is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science at Nankai University China. His research focus is on data security and encryption.
William Choi, M.D. Ph.D. (Graduate)
Dr. Choi received his M.D. Ph.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He is now a resident physician at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Denisa Duma, Ph.D. (Postdoc)
Denise received her M.S. in Computer Science from Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble France. She did her Ph.D. in Computational Biology at the University of California Riverside.
Andrew Laitman, Ph.D. (Graduate)
Dr. Laitman received his Ph.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine and he did his postdoctoral fellowship at Liu lab. He is now a resident at University of Washington.
Yu Ri Lee, B.S. (Data Analyst)
Yu Ri has received her B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from Texas State University, San Marcos. She worked in Liu lab as a data analyst.
Naveen Manoharan (Bioinformatics Programmer II)
Naveen received his Masters in Computer Sciences Engineering at University of Houston – Clear Lake. He worked in our lab as a Summer Intern and a Bioinformatics Programmer. He worked on developing Augmented Reality applications with Microsoft Hololens, performed text mining on medical journals and web development. He is now Software Engineer at Tenovos.
Hyundoo Jeong (Postdoctoral Associate)
Hyundoo Jeong received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2017. He had joined Dr. Liu’s research group as a post-doctoral research associate and co-advised by Dr. Joshua Shulman. He is now an assistant professor at Chosun University, South Korea.
Frederick Campbell (Graduate)
Frederick Campbell was a graduate student at Rice University and was co-mentored with Dr. Genevera Allen. He was interested in optimization and statistical machine learning with applications in medicine.
Ayush Raman (Graduate)
Ayush joined SCBMB program as a graduate student and have completed the program under the supervision of Dr. Zhandong Liu at NRI and Dr. Kunal Rai at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is now Postdoctoral Associate at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
Hyun-Hwan Jeong (Postdoc)Hyun-Hwan received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Ajou University in August 2015, and started postdoctoral associate position in the lab of Dr. Zhandong Liu, and co-mentored by Dr. Huda Zoghbi, 2015. He is now an assistant professor at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Hari Krishna Yalamanchili (Postdoc)
Hari received Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong in 2014 and joined Dr. Zhandong Liu’s lab as a postdoctoral associate. He is now an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
Ying-Wooi Wan (Ph.D.) (Assistant Professor)
Dr. Wan obtained the undergraduate degree in mathematics and computer science from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2001. In 2004, she received a master degree in computer science, with the emphasis in database supervised by Dr. John Atkins from West Virginia University. Dr. Wan received the PhD degree in computer and information science from West Virginia University in 2011. Dr. Wan joined Dr. Liu’s lab in 2012. She is now working in the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson as a senior scientist.
Rami Al-Ouran (Ph.D.) (Bioinformatics Analysist)
Dr. Al-Ouran received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Mutah University, Jordan and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Ohio University. During his M.S.’s he studied computer scheduling and resource management. For his Ph.D., he joined the Bioinformatics lab at Ohio University where he focused on developing computational methods for studying regulatory genomics. He is now an accomplished Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science and AI at Al-Hussein Technical University.
Kaifang Pang (Ph.D.) (Postdoc)
Dr. Pang obtained the Ph.D. in computer science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is working as a postdoctoral associate in Dr. Liu’s lab.
Nigel Lee (Bioinformatics Programmer II)
Nigel received his bachelor and master’s in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. He was a research assistant who worked on plant phenotyping using high-throughput computation methods in Baskar’s lab in Iowa State University. Nigel joined Dr. Liu’s lab in 2018. Nigel is now working in Sampled as a bioinformatician.
Yanwan Dai (Ph.D.) (Bioinformatics Analysist I)
Dr. Dai received her Ph.D. degree in BioSciences and is pursuing her Professional master’s degree in Statistics from Rice University. She joined Dr. Liu’s lab in 2019 and worked as a Bioinformatics Analysist. She now works in the Duke Cancer Center as a bioinformatician.
Lucian Li (Bioinformatics Analysist I)
Lucian received the bachelor ‘s in Computer Science and BA in History from Duke University in 2020. He joined Dr. Liu’s lab in 2022. Lucian is now a doctoral Student at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Haijing Jin (Ph.D.) (Graduate)
Dr. Jin received the bachelor and master’s degree at Xiamen University in China, and she majored in Biology. Dr. Jin joined the SCBMB program in 2015 and was a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Liu. She is now a postdoctoral fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Jingyuan Hu (Ph.D.) (Graduate)
Dr. Hu received his B.S. degree in biology from George Washington University. He was pursuing his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Dr. Zhandong Liu. He is now a postdoctoral researcher in Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Linhua Wang (Ph.D.) (Graduate)
Dr. Wang joined the lab in 2020 as a Ph.D. student in the QCB program. Before that, he received his M.S. in Computational Biology at CMU and B.S. in Biotechnology at Sun Yat-sen University in mainland China. Alex also worked as a bioinformatician at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he built machine learning packages for Protein Function Prediction. Dr. Wang is now in the Ancestry, working as a machine learning scientist.
Alexander Trostle (Bioinformatics Analyst)
Alex received a bachelor’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona in 2018. He joined Dr. Liu’s lab as a bioinformatics analyst in 2019. He is now a doctoral student at UT Southwestern.
Dongxue Mao, Ph.D. (Postdoc)
Dongxue received her B.S. degree in Biology at Tsinghua University in China and Ph.D. degree in Developmental Biology at Baylor College of Medicine. During her Ph.D., She joined Hugo Bellen’s Lab, where she focused on the mechanistic study of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease using Drosophila melanogaster. She worked on developing computational tools for pathogenic genetic variant analysis while she was in the Liu Lab as a postdoctoral fellow.
Chaozhong Liu, Ph.D. (Graduate)
Chaozhong received his BSc in Biomedical Science from Zhejiang University with research experience in bioinformatics. He is currently a graduate student in the QCB program at Baylor College of Medicine. His research focused on data science applications in biomedical research and high throughput methods to study genomics and diseases. Dr. Liu is now working in the Ancestry.
Wanli Wang, Ph.D. (Graduate)
Wanli received her BSc from the University of Science and Technology of China, majoring in statistics. She is currently a graduate student in the QCB program at Baylor College of Medicine and pursuing her Ph.D. degree mentored by Dr. Zhandong Liu. She worked on using deep learning and machine learning models to develop computational algorithms and analyze multi-omics data.
